We are proud to present Valerie Ellery as our keynote speaker. (http://www.valerieellery.com/) Mrs. Ellery is a devoted wife, mother of four, grandmother, former National Board Certified Teacher, Curriculum Specialist, Mentor, Staff Developer, and Reading Coach.  Valerie Ellery has dedicated her professional career to the field of Literacy.  She is currently serving as an International Literacy Consultant, Award-Winning Author, and Inspirational Women's Ministry Leader. Dr. Brian Sturm believes that stories have a deep power to change lives and create a better world. As we listen to and tell each other stories, we build community, share experiences, laugh together, and come to understand the fundamental similarities of all people.

Brian is an Associate Professor at the School of Information and Library Science and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he teaches courses in children's librarianship and storytelling. Brian has been a professional storyteller for over 15 years, sharing tales of marvel and extravagance from around the world with children and adults in schools, libraries, hospitals, museums, and conferences. He is fascinated by the way that storytelling can enchant listeners, and he's made it his life work to explore how and why this happens. He brings to his performances a love of the natural world (he was an outdoor educator, a wildlife rehabilitator, and a planetarium show presenter in a former life) and a delight in the oddities of life.

This is the only Spring Event the Southwest Virginia Reading Council will be offering this year.  There will NOT be a Book and Author Dinner.
