The Southwest Reading Council will hold the Annual Fall Conference on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Higher Ed Center in Abingdon, Virginia from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
We are proud to present Valerie Ellery as our keynote speaker. (http://www.valerieellery.com/) Mrs. Ellery is a
devoted wife, mother of four, grandmother, former National Board Certified Teacher, Curriculum Specialist, Mentor, Staff Developer, and Reading Coach. Valerie Ellery has dedicated her professional career to the field of Literacy. She is currently serving as an International Literacy Consultant, Award-Winning Author, and Inspirational Women's Ministry Leader. Over twenty years ago, she realized her oldest son had a problem with reading. This very personal experience launched her journey in the quest for understanding - what do proficient readers do?
We will also be offering breakout sessions which will include Patsi Tollinger, , Cathy Bollinger, Tom Santangelo, and Valerie Ellery.
Vendors will be present with a variety of goods. There will also be refreshments and door prizes!!
Registration will begin at 8:00 AM.

The Annual Fall Reading
Conference will be held on November 3, 2012 at the Higher Ed Center in
Abingdon, VA. Registration will begin at
8:00 AM. Our featured speaker will be Thomas Santangelo from the Department of
Education. He will be speaking about the revised English SOLs and new
English and Writing assessments. Laura Lester will also be speaking. We will have several breakout sessions including Word Study - Kathy Stewart and Carole Greer; Leveled Readers - Karen Bartin and Tabitha Martin, Children's Author - Sharon Griffith (Granny Gathers). Refreshments will be served and there will be Door Prizes!!

Reserve October 15 for the 2011 Southwest Reading Council Fall Conference. We will be holding the conference at a new venue this year. The conference will be held at The Higher Ed Center in Abingdon. This is located at Exit 14 (I-81). Dr. Jean will be one of the featured presenters at the conference. More presenters will be announced soon!!!
